Weekly Recap: Noteworthy Calls for Service 9/11- 9/15

Weekly Recap

The information below represents a few of the notable calls for service handled by the Verona Police Department between Monday (9/11) morning and Friday (9/15) afternoon.  This information is not all-inclusive, but rather preliminary information gathered from officers who investigated the calls.

  • 9/12/23 @ 10:10 a.m. – Officers were dispatched to a retail store for a report of a female acting strangely in the store.  The 32yo female from Gratiot made a mess of the women’s clothing section of the store and had removed tags and concealed clothing items.  We contacted by officers, she attempted to destroy drug evidence.  She was arrested for Possession of Cocaine and Drug Paraphernalia, and it was also determined she attempted to steal approximately $600 in merchandise from the store.  She was booked into jail on drug charges and for a Probation Violation, and retail theft charges were referred to the DA’s Office.
  • 9/12/23 @ 11:42 a.m. – VPD was dispatched to a domestic disturbance; however, when officers arrived, both involved parties were gone.  The reporting party, a 35yo Verona female returned with her 38yo male significant other.  The reporting party provided a drastically different story than what she reported to 911.   Both parties were warned for Obstructing an Officer.
  • 9/13/23 @ 6:53 p.m. – VPD responded along with FitchRona EMS for a report of bicyclist who collided with a parked motor vehicle.  The biker, a 67yo male from Verona, sustained injuries and was transported by EMS.  The owner of the parked vehicle was contacted and made aware of the damage to their vehicle.
  • 9/14/2023 @ 6:45 p.m. – 2 officers directly patrolled the VAHS varsity football game.   Verona defeated Janesville Parker 20-17.   Go Wildcats!
  • 9/15/23 @ 11:15 a.m. – A citizen reported finding a friendly, declawed, female cat.   The finder went to the extent of contacting the Humane Society and also having the cat scanned for a microchip, but none was found.  This information was posted on VPD’s social media platforms and within one hour the cat’s owner contacted VPD.  The cat and owner were reunited.  I guess you could say the cat found the purrrfect temporary caretaker.
