The information below represents some of the notable calls for service handled by the Verona Police Department between Friday (9/8) evening and Monday (9/11) morning. This information is not all-inclusive, but rather is preliminary information gathered from officers who investigated the calls.
- 9/10/23 @ 3:52 a.m. – VPD assisted the Dane County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) with searching for a hit-and-run suspect vehicle. A VPD officer located and stopped the vehicle, and DCSO responded to investigate. The driver, a 19yo Monticello female, was ultimate arrested for OWI.
- 9/10/23 @ 12:13 p.m. – A hit-and-run vehicle crash was reported. A driver merging onto USH 18/151 collided with a truck pulling a trailer, causing minor damage. Follow up with the other driver will be completed. Crashes occurring during highway merging maneuvers seemed to have increased recently. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone that it is the merging driver’s responsibility to enter the highway safely and to yield the right-of-way to vehicle already being operated on the highway.
- 9/11/23 @ 5:20 a.m. – Officers were dispatched to an apartment complex parking lot for the report of a vehicle doing donuts and revving its engine. While officers were responding, it was reported the vehicle collided with a parked vehicle. As officers arrived, they witnessed the vehicle collide with another parked vehicle, then it backed into a squad car. The driver was detained and was later arrested for OWI-1st Offense. In total, three vehicles and the squad car were struck, as well as a nearby fence. A charge of Going Armed with a Firearm While Intoxicated is also being referred to the District Attorney’s Office, as a firearm was located in the vehicle.
