The information below represents some of the notable calls for service handled by the Verona Police Department between Friday (7/7) evening and Monday (7/10) morning. This information is not all-inclusive, but rather preliminary information gathered from officers who investigated the calls.
- 7/7/23 @ 11:08 p.m. – An 18yo female driver from Madison was stopped for a speed violation. The odor of marijuana was detected, and signs of impairment were observed. A series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTs) were administered, and the driver was arrested for OWI-1st Offense. The driver consented to a blood draw and was released to a responsible party. She was also cited for speeding and possession of marijuana.
- 7/7/23 @ 11:46 p.m. – An officer stopped a vehicle for several registration violations. Officers later searched the vehicle and marijuana and drug paraphernalia were located. The driver, a 56yo male from New Glarus, was cited for Operating While Suspended, Non-Registration of Auto, and Possession of Marijuana. The passenger, a 39yo female from New Glarus, was cited for Possession of Marijuana.
- 7/8/23 @ 2:31 a.m. – An officer stopped a vehicle because the vehicle’s registered owner had a revoked drivers license. The driver, a 50yo female from Belleville, was the registered owner and she displayed signs of impairment. SFSTs were administered, and the driver was arrested for OWI-2nd Offense. Marijuana was located in the vehicle. The driver was cited for Operating After Revocation and Possession of Marijuana, and she was booked into jail for Felony Bail Jumping as she had bail conditions which prohibited her from possessing controlled substances and/or drug paraphernalia.
- 7/8/23 @ 4:29 a.m. – A vehicle was stopped because it failed to stop at a flashing red traffic signal. The driver, a 43yo male from Middleton, displayed signs of impairment, so SFSTs were administered. The driver was arrested for OWI-4th Offense. A search of the vehicle yielded cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The driver was booked into jail for the felony OWI, Possession of Cocaine, and for a Probation Violation. Charges of Operating After Revocation and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia are being referred to the DA’s Office.
- 7/9/23 @ 6:09 p.m. – A 22yo female from Verona was stopped for a speeding violation. The officer smelled the odor of marijuana in the vehicle, and a search resulted in the seizure of multiple THC vape cartridges, drug paraphernalia, and open intoxicants. Citations were issued for those violations.
