Weekly Recap: Noteworthy Calls for Service 6/26- 6/30

Weekly Recap

The information below represents some of the notable calls for service handled by the Verona Police Department between Monday (6/26) morning and Friday (6/30) afternoon.  This information is not all-inclusive, but rather preliminary information gathered from officers who investigated the calls.

  • 6/26/23 @ 2:23 p.m. – A home healthcare nurse contacted VPD to request a welfare check of an 81yo Verona resident.  Exigent circumstances were present based on the reported facts and officers entered the residence.  Unfortunately, they found the resident deceased and a Dane County Medicolegal examiner was summoned to the scene.  The preliminary investigation revealed no suspicious circumstances.
  • 6/27/23 @ 7:21 p.m. – Officers were dispatched to a Verona restaurant for a report of a patron who assaulted a 16yo waitress.  The 50yo offender from Madison left the scene prior to VPD notification and response.  The offender is still being sought by VPD for questioning.
  • 6/29/23 @ 12:11 a.m. – While on patrol, an officer observed a vehicle deviate from its designated lane.  The vehicle’s registration also returned expired by several months, so the officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The officer suspected the driver was impaired, so Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, as well as Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement tests.  The 19yo driver from Madison was arrested for OWI-1st Offense, and it was suspected she was impaired by drugs rather than alcohol.  She was also cited for Unsafe Lane Deviation and Expired Registration.  *Many VPD officers are certified in Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE) and are able to conduct additional roadside field sobriety tests to evaluate drug impaired driving.
  • 6/30/23 @ 4:09 p.m. – While on patrol, an officer observed a speeding violation and activated his radar unit in moving mode.  The offending vehicle was traveling 60mph in a 35mph zone so the officer stopped the vehicle.  The 41yo driver from Fitchburg was cited for the speed violation and also for driving with a suspended license, and he was warned for not being able to produce proof of vehicle insurance.
