The Verona Police Department has had officers dispatched to an extraordinary amount of unintentional 911 calls in the past couple months. Just in the last 9 days of June, VPD officers have been dispatched to 75 unintentional 911 calls…..correction, 76…..another one just came in.
Below shows comparison of the number of unintentional 911 calls between 2022 and 2023, January 1 – June 9.
It seems as though many of the unintentional 911 calls are coming from Android phones. This may be as a result of a recent Android operating system update which automatically enabled the Emergency SOS feature, even if you previously disabled it.
Remember, if you do accidentally call 911 or activate your phone’s emergency calling feature, please remain on the line and communicate the mistake to the 911 call taker!
