Permits are not required for the following signs:
New Free Standing Signs
New free-standing signs require permits and in order to obtain one you must have the following items:
New wall signs require permits and in order to obtain one, you must have the following items:
Additional Requirements for signs over 15’ in height include:
Permits are not required for the following signs:
- Address numerals and identification signs not exceeding 1 square foot in area
- Legal notices
- Signs established by, or by order of, any governmental agency
- Memorial signs and tablets displayed in cemeteries
- On-premises directional signs which bear no advertising
- Temporary signs which conform to the requirements of Section 13-1-326
New Free Standing Signs
New free-standing signs require permits and in order to obtain one you must have the following items:
- Permit Application Form (PDF) completed

Site plan showing the following:
- Location of all existing and proposed signs (Signs exceeding 30 inches in height may not be located within visibility triangle areas)
- Setback dimensions to property lines of all existing and proposed signs
- Location of existing and proposed signs in relation to parking lot, parking stalls and buildings
- Indicate whether or not sign is illuminated
- If externally illuminated, indicate illumination at lot line(s)
- Size of the property (total square footage)
- Building plan showing the following:
- Scaled color elevation drawing of proposed sign
- Overall height size of the proposed sign
- Foundation detail
New wall signs require permits and in order to obtain one, you must have the following items:
- Permit Application Form (PDF) completed
- Building plan showing the following:
- Scaled color elevation drawing of each wall where a sign is proposed to be installed showing overall dimensions of wall, all existing and proposed signs (scaled and dimensioned)
- Overall dimensions of each wall
- Indicate whether or not sign is illuminated
- If externally illuminated, indicate illumination at lot line(s)
- Permit Application Form (PDF) completed
- Same requirements as new signs
- If all items required are already on file with the city, only a color elevation of the existing and proposed copy are required
Additional Requirements for signs over 15’ in height include:
- Structural calculations to support the foundation, sign structure and sign connection details (this information may be required for shorter signs depending upon inspector discretion)
- Post / pole details
- Connection of sign panels to sign structure
